You'd have to be absolutely bananas to think this is a good idea!
Perhaps other cultivation methods can be used to reduce fungal risk in crops - but GMO Bananas is where FSANZ wants to go and go they will. These had better be labelled!
Hat tip to Mark Neugebauer for this link.

An article entitled World’s 1st Genetically Modified Banana Sent for Approval crows about how wonderful it will be to be able to use this artificially gene-spliced fruit to try and avoid a fungus that is a problem in the industry.
Of course, there are a host of other options including reducing monoculture and increasing hygiene…but there’s no profit in that, is there?

These have never been scientifically tested for safety but regulators including FSANZ which is totally captured by Big Ag, won’t allow that inconvenient fact stop them from giving their wholehearted approval.
Before that happens, I suggest that we all keep this information in the back of our minds and when the public comment period opens up, be ready to write in and voice our concerns and opposition. At the very least, there should be a requirement to mandatorily label these FrankenFruits so consumers can make an informed choice.
