Thank you to everyone who wrote and voted yesterday on my post about the costs of subscribing to my substack. I tried to take all comments on board (I know there are still several comments I haven’t replied to yet - it’s my birthday today and I’m trying to take things a bit easier LOL - I will get to them tomorrow).

What I have tried to do is to find a happy medium between being compensated in some way for my work and not excluding those who can’t afford a subscription. Hopefully, I’ve hit the sweet spot for most people? Please remember that if you can’t afford this, it’s not in any way required to read my Stack. I never want to exclude anyone, as I said before.

Here are the changes:

1- I found out that Substack now allows payment in Australian dollars - HOORAY! I know that wasn’t the case the last time I checked - maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago. So I have changed the payment option to AUD though I have a feeling (not sure?) that this can work in several different currencies now and you have a choice?

2- I reduced the annual cost for subscription to $50 AUD / $5 AUD per month from where it was at $70 US annually / $7 US per month. This means that it is basically half the cost it used to be since $70 US = about $100 AUD. So a pretty big discount from the get-go.

3- A new payment category has been introduced for those who are on a concession or are studying. If you subscribe using this link - https://informedchoice.substack.com/Concession, you will get a 50% discount on either annual or monthly subscriptions. ($25 AUD annually or $2.50 AUD per month). There is no need to provide proof of either a concession or student card. We work on an honour system here 😀

I am also looking into getting Ko-Fi set up on the site so that those who want to pay occasionally for my work can do so instead of making a commitment to regular payments. Watch this space :-)

I really appreciated everyone’s input. The poll is still up for 2 more days and as I said, I will keep checking it from tomorrow, but I just wanted to let you all know about these changes.

Also, look to see the first subscriber-only zoom call in the first week of May. I’m hoping to do that at least once or twice a month from now on.

I hope you all have a restful Anzac Day and remember those who sacrificed so much for our freedom. Lest we forget.
